For most people, they get very discouraged when they can't do something well NOW. Years ago (yes 3 YEARS), when I was "younger" and thought I was stronger, I did the workout below. It took me around 35 minutes to complete. I couldn't imagine how I was going to be able to do any better. It was so, so hard. But the truth was, I could do better.
The workout is from crossfit. The official crossfit workout is:
30 "muscle ups" as fast as you can.
A "muscle up" is a pullup using rings and while you are pulling up you continue upwards into a ring dip. A very hard maneuver. They say if you can't do a muscle up the approximate equivalent effort is 4 pullups and 4 dips for each "muscle up". So the workout I did was:
120 pullups and 120 dips. I broke them up into 30 rounds of 4 pullups and 4 dips.
I got a personal record of 9: 41. One year ago I did a time was 13:38. This is nowhere near the crossfit records by any stretch but it is GREAT FOR ME.
The moral here is: keep at it. I have been making improvements for years and you can too. Keep a log of what you are doing now so you can find out how much better you are improving.
